On May 8, 2008, Sonco Gaming New Brunswick Limited Partnership was selected as the successful proponent for the New Brunswick Destination Casino Project. The agreement with the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation (NBLGC) was signed on July 15, 2008, and construction of the complex was underway in October 2008 by Atlantic Canada's Marco Group at a cost of approx. $90-million.
The Casino New Brunswick project is helmed by Halifax-based Sonco Gaming Inc. Sonco was developer and project manager of two similarly-sized Canadian casino projects in Ontario (Great Blue Heron Charity Casino), where it is a partner in the operating company, and in Alberta (Grey Eagle Casino and Bingo), where it is also the operator. In addition, Sonco and its principals have over 14 years of involvement in the Canadian gaming industry and over 40 years of real estate development, management and investment experience across North America. One of Sonco's core strengths is its ability to convene and lead diverse, multi-faceted project teams to ensure that projects undertaken are completed on time and on budget and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
The signing of the Casino Service Provider Agreement with the NBLGC is an opportunity for Sonco, Clairvest and Navegante to collaborate again, along with Riseley Gaming Inc., to develop, construct, finance, and operate a first-class gaming and entertainment complex, the first of its kind in New Brunswick.
