L'affiche du DTox Rockfest de Montebello, qui se tiendra le 15 et 16 juin prochain à la Marina de Montebello, ne cesse de prendre de l'ampleur!

L'équipe d'Outaouais Rock est fière d’annoncer pour sa septième édition la confirmation de Dream Theater, légendaire formation de métal progressif, qui clôturera la soirée du samedi à la 7e édition du festival qui aura lieu à la marina de Montebello, en Outaouais. Formé en 1985, le groupe originaire du Massachussetts a vendu plus de 12 millions d’albums, a récemment récolté une première nomination aux Grammy Awards et a sorti son 11e album l’automne dernier.

De plus, le célèbre groupe ska-punk californien Sublime sera de la partie. Après une pause de près de 15 ans suite à la mort du chanteur original, la formation influente s’est réunie récemment et a adopté le nom Sublime with Rome, en référence à son nouveau chanteur. Après avoir foulé les planches des plus grands festivals à travers le monde et vendu plus de 17 millions d’album, le groupe sera enfin présent à Montebello !

Finalement, les formations punk-rock californiennes No Use For A Name et Good Riddance, qui effectue une réunion, feront également partie de la programmation 2012 du D-TOX Rockfest, qui s’annonce la plus diversifiée à ce jour. Ces groupes s’ajoutent ainsi à Korn, Bad Religion, Suicide Silence et plus de 90 autres artistes qui seront annoncés en mars. À noter que toutes les formations internationales de l’édition 2012 donneront leur unique prestation en sol québécois à Montebello.

On attend donc le mois de Mars pour découvrir de nouveaux noms. Metalship vous tiendra au courant bien sur!
Une chose est sure, l'édition 2012 du Rockfest s'annonce déjà très solide! À ne pas manquer!

On peut découvrir un nouveau clip d'un titre extrait du onzième album studio du groupe de metal progressif Dream Theater, "A Dramatic Turn of Events", sorti en 2011.

Il s'agit du titre "Build Me Up, Break Me Down", et la vidéo est basée sur l'artwork de la pochette : elle utilise des effets CGI pour représenter l'homme au monocycle progressant sur une corde raide, l'espace, la tempête et un requin avec le logo Dream Theater sur son aileron.

Suite au départ du guitariste Alex Bois en juillet dernier, Periphery a récemment annoncé leur nouveau guitariste : Il s'agit de Mark Holcomb.

Rassurez-vous, il a déjà fait ses preuves dans le milieu de la scène : Il joue déjà dans un des projets du guitariste Misha Mansoor, Haunted Shores, et c'est également lui qui a remplacé Alex Bois lors de la dernière tournée du groupe !

Le groupe a également annoncé qu'il allait faire des dates avec les légendaires Dream Theater , dont deux spectacle où ils allaient être têtes d'affiches !

Dream Theater est officiellement entré en studio pour commencer le travail sur son premier album sans le batteur et membre fondateur Mike Portnoy.
Le guitariste de la formation, John Petrucci, a écrit sur son Twitter: "First day in studio [and] the dawn of a new era for DREAM THEATER. Can't wait to get the music flowing."

Mike Portnoy, membre fondateur et batteur du groupe de metal progressif Dream Theater a décidé de quitter le groupe. Voici son (long) commentaire :

I am about to write something I never imagined I'd ever write:

After 25 years, I have decided to leave Dream Theater....the band I founded, led and truly loved for a quarter of a century.

To many people this will come as a complete shock, and will also likely be misunderstood by some, but please believe me that it is not a hasty decision...it is something I have struggled with for the last year or so....

After having had such amazing experiences playing with Hail, Transatlantic and Avenged Sevenfold this past year, I have sadly come to the conclusion that I have recently had more fun and better personal relations with these other projects than I have for a while now in Dream Theater...

Please don't misinterpret me, I love the DT guys dearly and have a long history, friendship and bond that runs incredibly deep with them...it's just that I think we are in serious need of a little break...

Dream Theater was always my baby...and I nurtured that baby every single day and waking moment of my life since 1985...24/7, 365...never taking time off from DT's never-ending responsibilites (even when the band was "off" between cycles)...working overtime and way beyond the call of duty that most sane people ever would do for a band...

But I've come to the conclusion that the DT machine was starting to burn me out...and I really needed a break from the band in order to save my relationship with the other members and keep my DT spirit hungry and inspired.

We have been on an endless write/record/tour cycle for almost 20 years now (of which I have overseen EVERY aspect without a break) and while a few months apart from each other here & there over the years has been much needed and helpful, I honestly hoped the band could simply agree with me to taking a bit of a "hiatus" to recharge our batteries and "save me from ourselves"...

Sadly, in discussing this with the guys, they determined they do not share my feelings and have decided to continue without me rather than take a breather...I even offered to do some occasional work throughout 2011 against my initial wishes, but it was not to be...

While it truly hurts for me to even think of a Dream Theater without Mike Portnoy (hell, my father named the band!!), I do not want to stand in their way...so I have decided to sacrifice myself and simply leave the band so as to not hold them back against their wishes....

Strangely enough, I just read an interview that I recently did that asked me about the future of DT and I talked about "always following your heart and being true to yourself"...sadly I must say that at this particular moment, my heart is not with Dream Theater...and I would simply be "going through the motions", and would honestly NOT be true to myself if I stayed for the sake of obligation without taking the break I felt I needed.

I wish the guys the best and hope the music and legacy we created together is enjoyed by fans for decades to come...I am proud of every album we made, every song we wrote and every show we played....

I'm sorry to all the disappointed DT fans around the world...I really tried to salvage the situation and make it work...I honestly just wanted a break (not a split)...but happiness cannot be forced, it needs to come from within....

You DT fans are the greatest fans in the world and as you all know, I have always busted my ass for you guys and I hope that you will stay with me on my future musical journey, wherever it may lead me....(and as you all know my work ethic, there will surely be no shortage of future MP projects!)

Tel que le titre de la nouvelle, Mike Portnoy, légendaire batteur de la formation Dream Theater décide de quitter le groupe, disant sur un article publié sur Facebook que les relations qu'il entretient avec les gars d'Avenged Sevenfold et Transatlantic lui sont plus bénéfiques sur le plan personnel.
Le "blog" écrit par Portnoy laisse quand même place à un léger doute puisque le batteur dit qu'il doit "prendre un break de Dream Theater"... ce qui n'exclut pas un retour potentiel au sein de la formation dont il est à l'origine.

Steven Wilson de Porcupine Tree a révélé qu'il a commencé a travailler sur sa très attendue collaboration avec Mikael Åkerfeldt d'Opeth et Mike Portnoy de Dream Theater :

"I started writing with Mikael last month, finally," he said. "It's still in the very early days.
We wrote about 15 minutes of music last month in my studio near London and we're very excited about it.
I think people are going to be very surprised by the direction.
If they're expecting some kind of death-metal-progressive rock, they're going to be surprised [because] it's not like that."

If you put the two of us together, the last thing we're going to do is something similar to what people already know from our most high-profile project.
It's very arty, very ambitious; it's going to be epic.
We're still writing.[It's going to be] very dark, very twisted, very experimental.
It's still rock music, but we're trying to do something really, really special and really different with this."

Dans une interview en septembre 2009, Mike Portnoy a déclaré a propos du projet :

"The three of us each mentioned wanting to work with each other years ago, and since then it's kind of been this rumor that won't go away. I think all three of us regret ever mentioning it at this point, but I think the hype or anticipation around it has surpassed anything we possibly could realistically deliver. So I think now all three of us are kind of hesitant to do it, because there's been so much hype about it. (laughs)
This is an example of where the Internet can somehow be a bad thing and I think... that's why I try to keep as tight of a lid on things as possible when we're making a record, because anything that is said or leaked or heard, it opens up this can of worms of discussion and once people start discussing and discussing and discussing and dissecting and anticipating, they build up such a level of hype and expectations in their head that it's impossible to ever satisfy it. So that's one of the bad things about the Internet.
In answer to your question though, I think we'd love to work together, but at this point, we just don't know when."

À noter que le groupe légendaire sera accompagné par Dream Theater.

Mike Portnoy, le batteur de Dream Theater, a bientôt fini ses parties batteries pour le prochain album de Avenged Sevenfold.
Portnoy succède au malheureux James "The Rev" Sullivan, qui est décédé fin décembre.
Mike a dit "c'est extraordinaire et c'est une expérience très émotionnel!".

Jordan Rudess de Dream Theater (clavier) et sa fille de 13 ans, Kayla, ont enregistrés une chanson nommée "For The Moment" pour récolter de l'argent pour une organisation qui profitera au Central Asia Institute.
Cette organisation a été créé pour promouvoir l'éducation, spécialement pour les filles, dans les régions de l'Afghanistan et du Pakistan.
Greg Mortenson, co-auteur du bestseller du parue à la première place du New York Times, "Three Cups Of Tea" et nominé au prix Nobel de La Paix pour être l'un des fondateurs de Central Asia Institute.
La fondation a pu ouvrir 130 écoles au Pakistan et en Afghanistan, pour éduquer plus de 51000 élèves lors de l'année 2008.

Le Sweden Rock Festival aura lieu à Sölversborg les 3-4-5 et 6 juin 2009. Ce festival existe depuis 1992.

C'est pas moins de 5 heures de live, de clips et de documentaires sur le groupe qui sont proposées dans un boîtier contenant 2 DVD et intitulé "Chaos In Motion 2007/2008".
Comme c'est l'usage à l'heure actuelle, une édition Collector limitée à 5000 copies contenant en plus le show sur 3 CD est disponible. Précommande ici.
